In January 2000, Janai returned home and was honorably released after serving a successful mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormons"). She served in the California Ventura District on a Spanish-speaking mission. While there, Janai served the Spanish-speaking people in the Ventura area by teaching them about the gospel of Jesus Christ and the plan of salvation (our purpose for being on this earth).
As a matter of respect for her calling, a young woman serving a mission is to always be addressed by the title of "Sister". The Spanish word for "Sister" is "Hermana". So, for the length of her mission, Janai was referred to as "Hermana Murri".
